Veterans are a valued population within the It Takes A Herd community. 

Research continues to show that veterans are at higher risk for dementia due to factors such as traumatic brain injury and PTSD. It Takes A Herd recognizes these realities and intentionally includes veterans as participants, care partners, and volunteers within its programming. The calm, nonjudgmental nature of equine-assisted work offers veterans a unique opportunity to reconnect with themselves and others while reducing social isolation and stress.​
